Acupuncture can support hands-on treatment, movement, and rehabilitation as part of an individual approach to managing pain, muscle tension, and movement-related problems.
At Moveology Studio in Nantwich, we don’t offer acupuncture as a stand-alone, one-size-fits-all solution. We start with the bigger picture, understand what’s going on for you, and decide whether acupuncture is an appropriate part of your treatment.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture involves inserting very fine, sterile, single-use needles into carefully selected points on the body.
In a musculoskeletal setting, acupuncture may be part of a broader treatment approach. The points selected, number of needles used and length of treatment will depend on your individual presentation and what we’re trying to achieve.
For some people, acupuncture can complement other techniques such as soft tissue therapy, sports massage, movement and exercise-based rehabilitation.
Why might acupuncture be used?
People may consider acupuncture when dealing with musculoskeletal pain, muscular tension or persistent areas of discomfort.
At Moveology, the important part is deciding whether it makes sense for *you*.
Rather than choosing a treatment simply because an area hurts, we’ll consider your symptoms, history, movement, activity and goals. If acupuncture is appropriate, we’ll explain why we’re recommending it and how it fits into the wider plan.
What happens during an acupuncture appointment?
Before starting acupuncture, we’ll discuss your symptoms and relevant medical history to make sure the treatment is right for you.
We’ll explain what we’ll do, answer any questions, and make sure you’re comfortable before treatment begins.
We then insert very fine, sterile, single-use needles at selected points. You may feel very little as a needle is inserted, or you might notice a brief sensation, such as a dull ache, heaviness, or tingling, around the area.
The needles usually stay in place for a while while you relax.
And if needles aren’t your favourite thing? Tell us. Moveology doesn’t offer a bravery award. We want you to feel informed and comfortable with your treatment.
Does acupuncture hurt?
People experience acupuncture differently, but the needles used are extremely fine and are very different from the needles most people associate with injections or blood tests.
You may notice a brief pinprick or a dull, aching or tingling sensation. We’ll communicate with you throughout the session and can adjust or stop treatment at any point.
Is acupuncture suitable for everyone?
Not necessarily, which is why appropriate screening matters.
We’ll ask about your health and medical history before treatment and discuss anything that could affect whether acupuncture is suitable for you.
If acupuncture isn’t appropriate, we can discuss other treatment options that may better suit your circumstances.
Acupuncture as part of your treatment at Moveology
We don’t believe that one treatment technique is the answer to every problem.
Our approach is to understand what may be contributing to the way you feel and choose treatment accordingly. Depending on your needs, this might include acupuncture alongside soft tissue techniques, sports massage, movement, exercise or advice about managing your symptoms.
The aim is to create an individual plan rather than treating the same spot every time you visit.
